This addition project aimed to enhance both the visibility and capacity of an existing self-storage facility. The original two-storey building was expanded with a 70,000 sq. ft. four-storey addition, significantly increasing the rentable area and modernizing the facility’s overall appearance. The new addition also houses the main office and features a prominent overhang canopy that clearly marks the new site entrance for users.
The building’s updated façade blends functionality with bold design elements, incorporating curtain wall glazing, insulated metal panels, and metal panel accents. These materials work together to create a striking visual identity that catches the attention of passersby while promoting the facility’s presence along this busy corridor.
Beyond its aesthetics, the addition is designed for long-term durability and low maintenance. The steel frame and precast slab structure, combined with masonry at the ground level and insulated cladding above, ensure a robust and efficient facility. The visually enhanced elevation not only modernizes the building but also turns it into a self-advertising landmark in the community.
With its increased capacity and striking exterior, 25 Newkirk sets a new benchmark for urban self-storage facilities in Richmond Hill, offering users a modern, accessible, and highly visible space.
