PROJECT OVERVIEW

Master Planning for Growth & Connection

Reimagining Space for a Thriving Community

As King Street Community Church continued to grow, Reinders + Associates Ltd. was engaged to develop a functional program and master plan for its five-acre site. The goal was to optimize existing facilities while planning for strategic expansion to better serve the church’s evolving ministries and congregation.

A Vision for the Future

The redevelopment plan focused on expanding key facilities while ensuring long-term flexibility through a phased approach:

  • Sanctuary & Atrium Expansion: A 1,000-seat Sanctuary was designed to accommodate increased worship attendance. The adjacent Atrium provides a welcoming, interactive space for community engagement, relationship-building, and learning opportunities.
  • Gymnasium Expansion: Plans include enhanced recreational facilities to support youth programs, fitness, and church events.
  • Maximizing Existing Spaces: The existing building was reconfigured to optimize administrative offices, adult ministry areas, and children & youth programs, ensuring every space serves a meaningful purpose.

A Phased Approach to Growth

Understanding that growth happens over time, the master plan incorporates a strategic phasing plan, allowing the church to expand organically as ministry needs evolve and financing is secured. The Sanctuary and Atrium expansion was prioritized, giving the congregation immediate access to larger worship and fellowship spaces, with additional renovations and expansions planned for the future.

Building for a Stronger Community

By creating purposeful, well-connected spaces, King Street Community Church is ensuring its facilities support both worship and community engagement for generations to come. With a clear master plan in place, the church is well-positioned for sustainable growth and long-term impact in Oshawa and beyond.
